When I started doing film photography. I had some friends in my mind who I really wanted to ask for modeling. Zoe, is the one of them. She is Melbourne based artist and I really love her painting and her art works of kimonos. We met each other through the same interest such as Vintage kimonos. Kimonos are designed to be last for three decades. They were handed from Granma, Mother and children .Even if some parts are damaged, they are separated and sewn again to be another garments or which are kids kimono, Short Haori jacket or undergarments until get worn and tattered. Sometime even if they got patched, they become part of art such as called “Boro”. In Japan, we normally have our own process to mend kimonos but Zoe was different. She added her beautiful ideas to the damaged parts, such as beads or western fabrics. And all garments become her own art works. East or West, our cultural background is different and I am so happy to share this collaboration work with her and everyone. 私がフィルムカメラ撮影にハマりだした時からいつかモデルをお願いしたいと思っていたお友達、ゾイ。彼女はアンティーク着物という共通の趣味を持つアーティストです。彼女のもつ独特のアートセンスと蝶々のようにヒラヒラとした人柄が大好きで、いつかカメラの素人ながらにも彼女を撮りたいと思っていました。 昔の日本の着物がまだ貴重だった頃、着物というのは孫の代まで着られるようにデザインされていました。ダメージを受けたところは布を足したり中に織り込んだり、また糸を解いて縫い直して違うものにしたりと最後まで無駄の無いように布の障害を遂げる日本人の知恵がぎっしり詰まった工夫がありました。その工夫とはまたちょっと違う西洋の工夫を凝らし、ほころんだところにビーズや刺繍をして自分のサイズに仕立て直して彼女のアートにしてしまうゾイ、西洋と東洋、やり方は違いますがそのアイデアを分かち合える人に出会えた喜び、そして2人でできたこの撮影の作品をみんなにシェアできた喜び、違った文化や年齢、性別などを理解しながらそれぞれを尊重し、新しいものを作り合える仲間達がこの街にいることを私は幸せに思います。 Stylist and photo: @kimono_salaokabe Model: @zoeartist
